What inspired you to work with WBS?

Educators have been extremely significant in my own journey with writing. I am extremely thankful for all of the teachers—past and present—that have encouraged me to pursue writing and/or assisted me in further developing my writing.

This in mind, I was enthusiastic about the opportunity to play the opposite role by working with WBS; I was excited to work with students and optimistic about influencing them and their writing.

What has teaching writing taught you about your own writing?

Teaching writing has solidified my belief that collaboration and community are necessary among writers. In my writing club with WBS, my students seem to be most engaged when connecting with others through talking about their writing, no matter what stage of the writing process they are in. Their creativity flourishes when we brainstorm together; once they have words on the page, they are eager to read their writing aloud.

Witnessing this, I’ve been reminded to be grateful for the writing communities I’ve been a part of over the years—and to continue to seek them out.

What would a perfect morning look like for you?

For me, a perfect morning would involve waking up early—but well-rested—on a sunny Saturday and enjoying coffee and/or brunch alongside my friends.

What is something you love doing even though you’re not very good at it?

I really love figure skating. I don’t compete, and I typically only skate two times per week, but I like to stay active and find skating particularly fulfilling.
